Pandit Chandrakant Kapileshwari is acclaimed as one of the leading exponents of the Kirana Gharana
style of Indian classical music. He is widely traveled and has thrilled audiences throughout the world.

The style he has evolved places heavy emphasis on the emotional content and Layakari or 
intricate rhythmic patterns in Alap, Taan and Saragam during the improvisation of the Raga.
He gives as much importance to the poetry as to the structure of the Raga and thus as
in this recording, sings many of his own compositions.

Gifted with a melodious and well-modulated voice, he also experiments with
voice culture during vistar, the expansion of the Raga. 

That is the essence of Chandrakant and the magic he creates. In each Raga the weaves through notes
and beat so beautifully and eloquently, it haunts the listener long after he has left the concert hall.

TRACK 1.  RAGA ABHOGI KANADA - VILAMBIT AND DRUT
This midnight melody is a combination of two classical Ragas - Abhogi and Kanada

VILAMBIT: 'Banara Rangileko' (Husband to Be)
The “vilambit” or slow beginning of the Raga is sung to a rhythmic cycle of 12 beats known as Ektaal.
The poem projects the reflective mood of a bride as she anticipates the joy of union with her beloved

DRUT: 'Kaise Guna Gaoon Tero' (How can I sing your glory, you are so glorious!)
Here the artist expresses his awe at the all pervasive presence of the Creator.
The rhythmic pattern of the composition is Teental, a cycle of 16 beats.

TRACK 2.  RAGA HAMSADHWANI- 'Rangilo Mahi Sajanava' (Oh My Romantic Beloved!)
This piece was inspired by a Rajasthani village woman.
From a few notes strummed on a simple folk instrument (Bowed Ektar), the artist has developed this most exquisite interpretation.
Hamsadhwani is a North Indian adaptation of a popular South Indian Raga.
Here it is presented in the style of a Rajasthani folk music.
The poem, written by the artist in Rajasthani Language, expresses the jubilant feelings of a young woman in love.
It is sung in a fast tempo of Teentaal.

Note of Interest: This is the piece the ‘Beatle’ - Sir George Harrison liked,
and requested to be sung again. In fact the Auto Harp (Surmandal) in the CD Album cover
was gifted to CK from George at this time. It quickly became one of CK's most popular songs.

TRACK 3. RAGA JOGIA - Abhang: 'Nishidini Deva Abhanga Rangawa'
 (Whenever I sing your glory, it should be to the best of my ability!)
Raga Jogia embodies renunciation and religious asceticism.
It is therefore fitting that the artist has chosen this Raga to ender Abhang, a traditional Marathi devotional song.
It is sung in Keherwa, a rhythmic cycle of 8 beats.
In fervent prayer, the soul struggles to free itself from the sense of separation in order to attain Liberation.
Must he be reborn, the artist wishes the life of a singer again.
