CK-JI'S MINI - BIO
The name Chandrakant Kapileshwari conjures up magical vistas of beauty in the realm of Indian Classical music of the Kirana Gharana of the late Ustad Abdul Karim Khan.
The great genius and master (Ustad) broke tradition in the early part of this century by brining the music out of the princely courts to the common man, by taking on disciples in 'Gurukul' tradition, often teaching without any fee to students irrespective of their religion, creed, sex or monetary status in life and at the same time researching and proposing theories like 'srutis' (microtones) in Raagas and notation system.
Devoted to the cause of music and virtually possessed by it, the melodious music of this school also helped attain spiritual height and tranquillity.
Into this tradition was born Chandrakant in 1935 who received a vigorous training under his illustrious father Pandit Balkrishna Buwa, the chief disciple of Khan Saheb.
The style that the artist has evolved places heavy emphasis on 'SWARA'(notes) 'BHAVA'(emotions) and LAYAKARI' (intricate rhythmic patterns during the improvisation of the Raag.)
Gifted with a melodious voice, he gives equal emphasis to the poetry and thus sings many of his own compositions. Endowed with such artistry and masterly skills, the composer and musician Chandrakant creates hauntingly magical music.
